The Rules: In order to condense the number of questions a bit, we have a few rules laid out. These rules are based on what we've experienced in the past, as we've started to learn what TC will and will not answer.

    • They don't talk about future content

      • Campaign DLC
      • Gears 6
      • Maps
      • Characters
      • Modes

I'll sticky a comment to this thread to help collect questions.

*Also note that TC reads the twitch (and sometimes YouTube) chats for questions when live.

I'm rather scared to bring this up in the sub but...can we stop playing Blood Drive now?

    Posted: 30 Jul 2020 03:10 AM PDT

Right, so first I feel like I have to explain since I'm breaking a sacred rule here. Just hear me out....

I love this map, it's one of my favourite maps in the franchise (devs, if by some of chance you read this then gj, you should totally add in river too) and I was thrilled to see it finally made the cut and got the gears 5 treatment.

However, it's voted for EVERY SINGLE TIME IT APPEARS...and in the past few weeks I've went from loving this map to dreading it being an option in the vote menu. Yesterday I played six KOTH games and 5 were blood drive by an overwhelming majority even though I got matched with players from my previous game who would rather play the same map over again than allow some variation.

I realise that I'm unlikely to change it by posting here, but I'm curious to see if others are beginning to tire from constantly replaying this map; or if you guys have a different experience with map variation.

Sidenote: checkout is also overplayed tf...

Why do it yourself when turrets do it better?

    Posted: 29 Jul 2020 09:47 AM PDT

Just had an engineer tell me "Well if I didn't build it, I'm not repairing it."

    Posted: 30 Jul 2020 01:09 AM PDT

I mean, the man literally built minimal fortifications and only within a certain distance of the fabricator in Blood Drive. I generally let the engineers do their thing, but after 3 taps and nothing protecting them (I asked prolly twice times and there was no response, but he kept pep talking the team. It was weird), I started building stuff myself.

I finally asked over mic for people to start helping me repair these fortifications (I was playing Marcus and wanted to, you know, tank and not just repair). Since, idk... we're a team?

And got "Well, if I didn't build it, I'm not repairing it." I laughed cuz I thought it was a joke. I mean... who plays a game revolving around teamwork who thinks like that? Isn't Free For All for this kind of attitude?

It wasn't a joke. He literally told me "It's too far" when all the taps were next to each other, in the bottom / center of the map.

First time ever, I kicked a player... and, at Wave 47. I was more amused than irritated honestly, but I'm not going to play (Horde) with someone with that mentality.

He was a shitty engineer anyway.

I proceeded to get hate messages afterward slamming me for being a woman who plays Gears "so much," I guess because I'm on my 7th re-up?

This is the first time I've ran into anything directly negative in Gears community, I've played since 2013. Generally I get hate for being a female player in other games but this was the first time in Gears.

Not sure why I'm sharing. I guess I'm just amusedly confused?

Anyone else run into players like this?

Currently TC looks at 2 main places for questions: The Chat and General community discussion. In attempt to gather some better questions that TC may be able to better prepare answers for, we are going to look at collecting some questions in this thread.

Also note that this is not a thread that is officially supported by TC. We cannot guarantee that they'll see and/or use this. But we figure it's worth a shot. If nothing else, maybe someone else in the thread will be able to answer your questions!

    Bunker map fabricator placement

    Posted: 29 Jul 2020 11:13 PM PDT

Where does everyone prefer to put the fabricator and set up base on the bunker map and why? I prefer the barracks because it seems like the most defensible place and has a good line of sight. I know a lot of people like the bunker, but it seems like it's too easy to get overrun over there.

Is TC and Gears done with redesigning old maps?

    Posted: 30 Jul 2020 03:20 AM PDT

I know bringing back old maps was a contentious issue in Gears 4 since folk wanted new maps. But there's always been a disconnect with the playerbase and the forum base. On forums you see people decry Checkout and Blood Drive but as TC revealed they were the most popular maps in Gears 4. Obviously, like this post, people are more likely to air complaints than air contentedness.

Basically this is a long winded way of saying I never spoke up about something I loved about Gears that now I lament is gone. That is when they bring back Old Maps they give them a new visual twist.

Way back in Gears 2 when they brought back 5 Gears 1 maps is was really cool and unique to see Gridlock covered in moss, Canals covered in ice etc. It was the same old content but it felt "fresh" playing your favourite maps this way.

And even though people were annoyed the promised 2 maps a month in Gears 4 had mostly old maps (and the remakes of Gears 4 maps) I still got a kick out of seeing the Gears 4 take on Canals, Clock tower, Avalanche, Mercy etc.

But unfortunately this seems to have been abandoned. I get it. Before they had to remake the maps to include them so they might as well redesign them. It also helps when you're reselling the as part of DLC. Now they can import them from Gears 4 and it saves on dev time, which I can understand. But it is a big disappointment for me personally.

When the game launched I heard Gears 4 maps were included and was excited to see the new twist of each map. But they all looked the same. And it felt like I was literally playing Gears 4 again. Not just playing Gears 4 maps.

I think it's a great way to play old maps but not have it feel stale. Even if the Gears 4 redesigns of 1-3 stayed the same they should've kept to the spirit of Gears and redesigned the Gears 4 maps at least. For me anyway lol.

Anyway, has TC ever said anything about this? I'm worried the Esports scene might be the true shot caller. Esports folk don't like change so I can image they'd hate having a Snowy Foundation or a Mossy Dam for whatever competitive reasons. Which would be a big personal disappointment. And it makes bringing back old maps feel like they're of less value. Cause they're almost literally the same map as before. It makes the lack of brand new maps even more stark in my opinion.

Also is there any word of brining back old maps that weren't redesigned in 4? For example it seems like the perfect opportunity to bring maps like Azura back, considering the campaign.

Anyway, I understand the folk who hate playing Blood Drive or Gridlock etc but I thought I'd speak out for the folk who do like seeing Fuel Depot rear it's ugly head every now and then. Or would like to see how TC designed Trashball.

Edit: Flair says Esports cause I typed the word I guess?

Ranked is pretty dead in Australia, any ways to connect to a larger demographic?

    Posted: 30 Jul 2020 02:09 AM PDT

Often I need 15-30 mins to even get into a ranked match, while arcade I'll be in 2 mins max.

In arcade I'm facing non-kangaroolander anyway so it's very annoying ranked are region-ed.

    Are people cheating online?

    Posted: 30 Jul 2020 05:05 AM PDT

    I play on xb1

The janky movement is impossible on a controller. There is no way these people can juke around that much as they seem to.

every match is massively one sided because of it.

    More slow, serious animated expressions?

    Posted: 29 Jul 2020 06:45 PM PDT

Don't get me wrong, I love some of the current expressions. There are a lot of them and each of my CoG have an animated expression on their top slot (the one that plays if you're MVP) based on their personalities.

...But that's the thing, they can fit the CoG, which in general of snarky, cocky, and full of it, but nothing that fits the cold, merciless brutality of the Swarm/Locust. Things like a slow thumb (or even knife) across the throat. A slow, serious arm cross (not sassy turned the side one that looks like it's off the cover of a buddy cop movie), a calm, disappointed 'no' head shake, or even just stepping forward and giving a deep, primal war cry.

Just things that don't look ridiculous for this bloodthirsty killer, please.

    Operation 5 Arrival Horde Changes

    Posted: 29 Jul 2020 09:44 PM PDT

So I heard here and there that supposedly Op 5 will be a complete overhaul of the Class system so that any COG character can be used. So I was wondering: who will you guys start using once that happens for Horde? For me, I'll probably interchange between Benjamin and Anthony to give my boys love. Would be fun to see a match with Anthony, Benjamin, Clayton, Lizzie, and Gary.

Could we get some of the more annoying daily objectives changed?

    Posted: 29 Jul 2020 02:24 PM PDT

Just a minor annoyance but I hate seeing objectives like "win 3 arcade matches" pop up. I'm not a fan of the game mode at all and it just seems like a waste of your daily free re-roll.

Maybe it could be "play 3 arcade games" instead or something more general that isn't game mode specific.

How are high level players so utterly incompetent in horde?

    Posted: 29 Jul 2020 01:45 PM PDT

The game has been out for almost a year and players are just as incompetent as they were on day 1. Nearly every team is filled with high level players that either don't know how to revive, they buy their own useless fortifications instead of donating to the Engineer who gets a discount, high level engineers who spam out lvl 1 turrets and repair nothing, players that horde their energy and refuse to spend it on anything, not even their own upgrades. The best part is that no matter what you say in chat they are completely unresponsive and nothing changes. Dummy has 70k energy? Doesn't matter how many times you tell them they still dont spend it. Ask for repairs? Nope. It's like a chunk of the player base is brain dead in horde despite having clearly played enough to get their characters above lvl 10.....Was there a memo where everyone is letting their 4 year old siblings play the game right now? The mode isn't complicated but even the basics go ignored despite these players clearly putting plenty of time into the mode.

What is going on with the horde player base?
