The new playlist is really cool though, ping is good and I always can found a game quickly. Gnasher feels good. I sometimes got weird glitches but nothing crazy. Meeting a lot of new players. That's pretty sweet, but if you're one of them remember to play the objective. (You'll get a better kill ratio that way) PS; if you get wrecked, give it some time. Gears ain't as easy as it seems. | This Sub Doesn't Know How the Ranking System Works Posted: 13 Mar 2020 10:41 AM PDT This sub is filled with "I got MVP, won, and didn't rank up! >:(" There seems to be some misconception that if you are the best player in your lobby that you deserve to rank up the global and regional leaderboards. This is not true. The Ranking System is NOT a Progression System. It's a "how good am I at this game" system. This means you can't expect wins to always grant you MMR. If the ranking system did this, it would be absolutely broken. Because Gears 5 has no MMR restrictions on who you can party up with, a Gold player could stack with some bronze players and just slap bronze players on an easy road to Masters. Then the ranking system would be a joke. Rainbow 6 Siege had this exact problem, until they put MMR restrictions on who you can party up with. So, the Gears ranking system values performance and grades your performance relative to those people in your rank tier, NOT your lobby. The overall goal of the ranking system is to correctly predict outcomes of matches. If those predictions are wrong, the system will make adjustments (+ or - MMR) to make future predictions more accurate. If the predictions are right, then no adjustments will be made. This is why you see these posts of people complaining of 0 MMR gain despite a win and MVP. If the ranking system predicted you to win and pull MVP at the score you got, then the ranking system is doing its job correctly and won't make adjustments. You must exceed your tier's performance expectations to rank up. For example, if you're a diamond player and you want to advance to masters, you need to play like a masters player consistently. It does not matter if you are pulling MVP every game with X points if the game expects you to pull X+1000 to prove that you're a Masters. If you keep playing like a diamond 3 player, you won't move, even if you win consistently. This link leads to a pdf that explains, in great, geeky detail, how the core of this system works. Halo 5 uses this system as well, but both Gears and Halo have different implementations surrounding it because they are different games, and different things matter in those games. EDIT: Here is a video of Josh Menke, the designer of Halo 5's system, giving his GDC talk about ranking systems in video games. This can help shed more light into how these things work, if you have the patience to watch it. EDIT 2: I believe a lot of the frustration is that people can't see why they are gaining 0 MMR in these cases. I feel like it would be super helpful for TC to include a deeper analysis that shows you your expected scoreline vs your actual, and how that actual influenced your rank. EX: You are Gold 2. We expected you to have X scoreline. Your scoreline was Y. You performed above/at/below the expectation for your rank. As a result, your MMR is increased/unchanged/decreased. [link] [comments] | ||

| Gears 4 and 1: Ultimate Edition -- Cannot find GearGame Posted: 13 Mar 2020 06:16 AM PDT Hello all. Recently gotten real tired of the Microsoft Windows store because of how problematic it is. I have had various problems with this store over the past few years, but the most recent I am not able to solve because there are no other reported cases of it online that I could find. For both games, which I recently re-installed multiple times, they do not open. All I get is a popup that says, in short "cannot find gear game". At this point, I have uninstalled both games completely. However, I want to give them one last try because I really would like to play some Gears 4 multiplayer again, but I don't want to unless I have reason to believe it will work. Especially since Gear 4 is a 150GB download. Does anyone know why this might be? My only working theory is that it has something to do with the fact that my hard drive is encrypted. Perhaps something about that process is keeping the store from accessing the files? Seems dumb since it is able to download them fine (and I did confirm they are there). Other than that, I have no idea why this might be aside from the Windows store just being trash. Yes, I have reset the Windows store several times. Would appreciate any advice. [link] [comments] | ||
| Posted: 13 Mar 2020 09:58 AM PDT So I just started playing as Del a while back and I've been leveling up and the cards I personally run are as follow: Efficient Fabrication, Efficient Sentry, Overclocked Locker, Ingenuity, Reinforced Fabrication The card setup seems to really be good considering I used to use Baird when he had the Barrier damage bug. Then I looked at a different card that Del has which I thought I could maybe use. Armor Plating seems to be able to somewhat replace and for those that don't know what exactly it does is that it reduces damage for fortifications by whatever percent you have based on the card level as long as your fortifications are above 75% health. So I was wondering if I could replace Reinforced Fabrication with Armor Plating and those who use one over the other if they could give me their opinion on why one is better than the other. And if there is by some lucky chance someone who has done the math on which card is more beneficial and could let me know I would truly appreciate it. Also if anyone has any other suggestions on how I can improve my card setup I also appreciate it. Thanks everyone. [link] [comments] | ||

I looked for a weekly help megathread and did not see one. I've been trying, and failing, to play the campaign CO-OP of Gears 5 with a buddy of mine. Originally I was Games Pass and he was Steam, but we both were trying the Games Pass version. No matter what we do, the game will not let us stay connected in campaign. We have tried all of the following, including:

As in, the store will not let me install it. I've tried wsreset, I've tried resetting the Store in settings>apps>windows store>advanced options>reset, and I've tried putting the date and time to automatically set.
