Interesting tweet from Cliff about Gear of War 4

    Posted: 05 Feb 2020 08:38 PM PST

"Even if I gave 3 pages of notes on the Gears 6 take I'd wager the perception around the community would be lovely.

There's one thing they haven't gotten to that I wanted SO BAD for G4 that they never did. UGH."

When asked to just spill the beans Clfff replied

"it's called an NDA and lawsuits maaaan"

NDA is a non disclosure agreement. Maaaan

Best Case Scenario for the future of Gears

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 03:11 AM PST

    • Find a new replacement for Rod. Someone who has ambitious ideas and will respect the series' roots.

    • Give Gears 6 plenty of time, focus on adding content to Gears 5 and fixing the game up

    • Bring back Band of Brothers with monsters. Gears 6 should be darker and gritty again. Gears 5's ending shouldn't make this too difficult. Ditch the robots and the marvel jokes. Keep the Swarm and continue events from Gears 5. Gears 6 should be a soft reboot like Halo Infinite.

    Extra skill cards

    Posted: 05 Feb 2020 10:12 PM PST

I think TC should add the ability to scrap extra skill cards. It's just ironic you can skip the grind and use scrap to level up cards, but can't scrap.. seems like an easy thing to fix

Cover art for the new Gears of War: Bloodlines novel

    Posted: 05 Feb 2020 11:23 AM PST

I find myself afraid, and yet hopeful for the future of Gears of War with the departure of Rod from the series.

    Posted: 05 Feb 2020 09:01 PM PST

I wanted to write this as someone who's been a fan of it for quite a long while but admittedly not the whole series. I got in with 2, reveled in 3 and visited 1 after then got back in with 5. I fell off after 3 since I moved onto PC but I've held a candle for GoW since I got into it and was very excited to get back into it. I've been enjoying it since with some hiccups and admittedly bought the ToD 2 pass as I felt that it was worth it at the time, that opinion has changed some with TC's ups and downs but oh well, what's done is done.

To get to the meat of the issue, as someone who played Gears of War 3 until I quite literally wore a controller out, 5 has had multiple issues. The removal of starting weapon options (Retro Lancer, Hammerburst, Lancer, etc.) has always bothered me, and I still hope that TC change their mind on it and are willing to revisit the subject. Obviously characters from the campaign being not available from the get go is just unacceptable. Frankly, I am not one of the people who thinks Dom should have been in there, but at least everyone from the campaign and the skins they had in there should have been available, this includes the Locust Drone as well, at least in the Mount Kadar lab form. I don't like the Tour of Duty. Especially not with how it's made skins from the campaign unobtainable, that is just not right.

However, it has also brought in some things I really do enjoy. Unlike some people I very much enjoy the Deebees and the weapons they bring. While they may not be the visceral and hate filled killer robots some want, they are completely justifiable from a lore and story standpoint. There aren't many humans left, they need supplemental forces and the Deebees being necessary really reinforces the impact of the events of 2 and 3. I also like the Swarm as well. No, they are not the Locust, but I don't think they're supposed to be. The Swarm are something new. They are akin to a natural hazard which is being directed at the remaining humans by stupid and hate filled old Locust who are likely just the Boomers and Maulers from the old Horde, spouting barely understood dogma at highly impressionable and non too bright cavemen. You could do a lot with them story ways. I think the potential reintroduction of the Locust was handled extremely well and we could see them develop into another faction potentially led by Kantus survivors as the Kantus were not destroyed by the Imulsion Countermeasure.

Gears of War 5 has had a lot of ups and downs to me, the problem with this is that I don't really know where they come from. This is why I am both afraid and hopeful at the same time. We could be in the absolute worst case scenario, where the last person who gave a shit about the franchise just left and now a bunch of people who don't know anything or care about anything are left just putting in the bare minimum to keep their development jobs, leading to the slow and agonizing death of the franchise. And yet, we could also be on the dawn of a bright new future for both the game and franchise. Maybe TC does care but were being held back by an apathetic and bitter man who knew he was leaving anyways so he was trying to put in the bare minimum he possibly could until he got out, and with his departure, maybe TC can now do the things they actually want to but were held back from putting in, maybe they can get the game where it needs to be while offering great new additions and polished up favorites from older fans. Ultimately, I don't know. This is what is making me uncertain and concerned, because I think this is either the end, or a bright new beginning for 5. I know you probably don't like the ping u/OctusTC and you also don't like having to read all this, but I do legitimately hope you and the rest of TC actually care about this game because I would love to see this turn out to be a bright new beginning for the game and not its end. I'm not trying to insinuate that you don't, but with how things have gone, it's not great and I think how things go after this is really going to define how people see the studio and the franchise itself. So I do sincerely hope the problem was Rod and that you guys can now go full force into the things you were wanting to do.

In my opinion, I feel as though tour stars should convert to xp or scrap when you complete the ToD. Anyone feel the same? I just feel no compulsion to play the game for the next few weeks because I finished my tour.

    Gears 5 Horde Mode Engineers

    Posted: 05 Feb 2020 08:46 PM PST

Even since Gears 4's horde mode, I've always preferred building weapons lockers and class/heavy weapons over sentries.

Not only are sentries weak and overly expensive in Gears 5, you have to spend more and more energy on reloading them. Additionally, building several sentries creates obstacles right in the firefight.

I've always preferred weapons lockers because they reload weapons for free, and I feel heavy weapons are much more powerful than sentries. The Tri-Shot is just too damn good to pass up on. However, what I hate most about building weapons lockers is that players will put weapons in them and NEVER use them. Lockers are honestly so helpful and underrated. My go-to is two Tri-shots- one to use while one is in the locker- a salvo and a cryo gun.

What does Rods departure mean for the Movie?

Curious about Rod and his leadership direction

    Posted: 05 Feb 2020 07:37 PM PST

Hello, I'm from the Diablo community & I've never played GoW. I was wondering what type of leader is Rod and what should we expect from him for Diablo? I took a cursorly glance at this sub and seems like people are pissed about MTX and stuff, which tbh is welcome for Diablo. Besides that, what can we expect from someone who hasn't worked on an ARPG IP in the last 14+ years?
