    Their twitter suggests that server issues have been fixed, but that's clearly not the case in the U.K. as I've just been kicked from a horde game 5 times in around 60 minutes and my 3 other companions roughly the same. People say 'literally unplayable' for a joke I know but right now that is actually the case!

    We all know it's not as easy as, 1) customer complains 2) problem gets fixed, of course, but if you've gone out of your way to create an event to encourage people to play for the weekend then surely you are expecting a boost in player numbers so that a natural response to this would be to have more people working on expanding the server capacity or more staff assigned to frequently checking the status and fixing issues or heaven forbid, anticipating issues and putting a plan in place for errors that may arise based on the above!

    It's just the strangest version of carrot & stick I've ever seen. Encourage players to play, snap the stick off in the middle and stab players in the eye with it. You're affiliated with Microsoft now ffs, there must be almost endless money available to have the best of the best.

    I dislike outrage culture but as I said in my last post and which I'm sure everyone can agree with - look around at the way your customers are reacting. Bethesda have lost all credibility because most decisions they make are with dollar signs in mind and not the user experience. I know it's been said so so many times and everyone will read this and groan but it's just so disappointing at this stage. Sorry for ranting, I know we're all bored of these posts.

    New KotH changes and Dev stream important notes

    So everyone who plays KotH has noticed the changes now, and everyone on this sub has seen the posts complaining about the change. If you also have not watched the last stream, they talked about some things that may make you reconsider joining the mob mentality currently brewing.

    TC said in their last stream that there are plenty of ways to inflate your score that don't directly contribute to your post match rank gain/ loss (G/L). For example headshots and executions dont do anything to affect your mmr calculation at the end of match, but DO contribute to game score.

    Thus, game score does NOT directly contribute to mmr G/L (TC actually said game score or score per min is an indirect influence). But at the same time game elements like caps and elims DO give game score AND contribute to mmr G/L. The key thing TC tried to convey here is that the match scorecard is only a reference for players to track their in game performance, completely separate from the mmr calculations since it contains things that do not count like a headshot bonus.

    ALSO, TC said the ranking system does not weigh the value of things like eliminations, caps, etc. equally every single match. For example lets say you consistently get many elims, but maybe 10 or less caps every match. Behind the scenes, the ranked algorithms are re-evaluating how much kills will contribute to your mmr G/L. It notices you may frag out, but do not contribute nearly enough caps compared to the rest of the team.

    It puts less and less weight on elims to the point where they are worth a minimal amount and the most valuable thing you could do is get caps and breaks instead. Unfortunately, NONE of this is told to the player. TC admitted they know this, and are trying to figure out a new post match UI that won't give too much unnecessary info, confuse users, and be easily understood.

    TL; DR The new changes to KotH may only be superficial. The actual way your mmr gain/loss is calculated post-match is most likely adjusted for changes or may not even care about the score difference from changes.

    It is impossible to test the old system and the new system with exactly the same match conditions, but from my experience I am gaining and losing points very similar to the past system. Dont quit playing KotH :)

    I was reminiscing on gears of the past and remembered a gun that flies under the radar when ive talked to people about what they miss most. The one shot heavy sniper. Does that gun not get mentioned because it was cancerous? I don't remember it being too over the top or used all that much...but that gun seems to me like the deformed child gears keeps locked under the stairs...

    Suggestion for change in matchmaking with Escape + Horde

    Hey there! I'm pretty exhausted with all the quitters in Escape and Horde (and I'm sure this is discouraging to many people as well). I feel that a HUGE part in why people quit is because they didn't get to play the particular class or character they wanted. If they end up with a random character, they're way more likely to quit. Especially for horde when games are 2+ hours.

    SOLUTION: Let us queue with a character locked in. I used to play Heroes of the Storm - you were able to select a Hero you want, then matchmake. You were GUARANTEED to play that Hero for that match. If I start matchmaking as Keegan, I should play as Keegan for the match. The matchmaking algorithm can match you with people playing other characters.

    • This is the #1 way to solve this since TC decided to implement character locks
    • Even if two people hover a character, what determines who gets the character? Is it random?? I've seen level 3 Mac's get selected while the level 11 mac's end up getting swapped. It's definitely not based on a first come first serve basis.
    • WE NEED 20/25 waves Horde permanent variant. This should've been shipped with the game, especially since they were popular in Gears 4. Even though no duplicate characters is discouraging, so is a 2-3 hour horde match for people.
    • There's no real text chat in the lobby and no way for people to communicate (other than voice) which character to play. So just let us character lock to make it easy. Right now it's a coin toss on whether you get your character or not, and that's annoying.

    That's pretty much all I have to say. Being in lobby is frustrating due to no dupes. If it's TC's design choice for no duplicates, that's something we can't change. but at least make it so that having the character we want is guaranteed.

    Horde Trolls

    Has anyone had issues with Trolls entering Horde late in game, smelting all weapons on lockers and moving defenses to red causing the team to get overrun? Happened to me this morning on wave 37.

    Anyone else miss getting a random map if there's a tie in map votes?

    Not a major thing but I've always preferred how Gears 2 map voting worked. A choice of 2 maps and if it's a tie it selects a random map which is neither of the two.

    I loved to hate it when there were 2 good maps as an option but you got the likes of Day One or Stasis instead. And there was pretty much no other way you'd get to play Stasis since nobody voted for it, you had to get a tie.

    Thanks to this Stasis grew on me and I'd actually love to see the map in Gears 5.

    Again, not an essential game defining mechanism... but just a minor thing I've always preferred.

    Was always fun doing last minute tactical voting to get the map you want if people were trying to get a tie for a random 3rd map. Another way to get good old Stasis!

    Just went 27 (eliminations) and 6 deaths, got MVP and because my teammates can't go better then 8-14 I lose 275 points lol. It's pathetic how bad this ranking system is and this is coming from someone in masters..

    Is Xbox Live required for offline play in Gears 5?

    Is it possible to play Horde / Versus / Campaign offline in Gears 5 without an Xbox Live subscription? In gears 4 I wasn't able to play modes offline when my XBL ran out, and I'm wondering if it's the same in 5. Thanks!
