    Weekly Developer Stream on Thursday - Submit Topic Ideas and/or Questions!

    In the past, TC has hosted some "presentation style" streams. They answered a few questions, but a majority of the stream revolved around them going through a prepared presentation or showcase. Some examples are:

    • Showing how maps are made
    • Look back at Gears 3 cinematics
    • Discussion of how Gridiron was developed

    What do YOU want to see?

    I'll still collect questions below (as normal). But if TC were to do more of these prepared streams, what topics would you like to see them discuss?

    Weekly Developer Stream Thursday!

    Where to Watch:

    When:

    • Starts at ~3pm PST
    • Lasts for ~1.5-2 hours

    Who:

    • Dana (u/tc-mjrdecision) usually the host
    • Occasionally other developers will join - like a map designer, the PvP lead, etc.
    • Someone typically works behind the scenes to run the stream/chat

    What:

    • The community team discusses any recent news and follows up with a Q/A session
    • Some streams have raffles or "click-to-claim" style prizes available!

    Check stickied comment for questions. They haven't announced a guest at this time, but I'll adjust topics to fit the guest whenever that's announced.

    The Rules: In order to condense the number of questions a bit, we have a few rules laid out. These rules are based on what we've experienced in the past, as we've started to learn what TC will and will not answer.

    • They don't talk about future content
      • Campaign DLC
      • Gears 6
      • Maps
      • Characters
      • Modes

    I'll sticky a comment to this thread to help collect questions.

    *Also note that TC reads the twitch (and sometimes YouTube) chats for questions when live.

    For all the criticism that the new games sometimes gets, at least the games still feel and play like a Gears game. Unlike what's happened to Halo over the years.

    Not making an excuse for some of the criticisms of the new games, but after seeing what's happened to Halo over the years, I'm just grateful that the new Gears games still feel and play like a gears game. 343 tried making Halo into call of duty with halo 4 and changed so many core aspects of the games. They've changed fundamental things like sprint, and made the relationship between chief and cortana the main focus of the campaigns for some reason.

    And honestly I don't hate Halo 5 gameplay at all, I actually quite like it. But god damn did they fuck up that campaign so bad, how could they possibly think people would enjoy fighting against robotic Prometheans all the time? At least the coalition was smart enough to make the new enemies similar to the locusts (spoilers: well they are in fact locusts) because they know that's what the fans would enjoy.

    And gears 4 and gears 5 still play like a gears game, no doubt about it. Still gnasher and power weapon focused like it always has been. Maybe it's because there aren't other games like gears anymore, but still there's never a moment where I'm like "this doesn't feel like gears".

    So considering all the shit that's been going on at 343 recently, I'd just like to give some thanks to TC for at least making sure that Gears is still Gears.

    It's been a while since I've played the campaign, but the first section that pops into my head is the last chapter of Act III when you are escaping the rocket launch pad in the desert and have to fight that huge tentacle Swarm boss.

    Is anyone else sick of the juvenile blood sprays, and can we maybe not for Gears 6?

    I'm under no delusion of what game I'm talking about. Part of the reason why I love Gears of War so much ever since 2006 was how grimdark it was, the exploding the heads, the chainsaw guns, the characters hurling insults at a gibbed enemy. It's a very "edgy" game for "edgy" boys, and I get that, and I love it for that.

    But goddamn, the blood decals were simply harmless but dumb at first, but now I get actively annoyed--not at the player, but the game that allowed it. I'm already getting trolled in the chat, by other other players, character emotes, and even the character lines said during gameplay, and that's all fine and expected--but am I really going to spend my limited time off from my job and family to play a game where I stare at middle fingers, "STFU", and toilet blood splatters? I'm getting Modern Warfare 2 weed icon flashbacks.

    Perhaps going to a fan sub and complaining about this isn't the smartest idea, and I may certainly be in the minority for how often I see people choose these particular icons, but I would love to either no see this in the next, or have an option to turn it off (a la Halo MCC customization toggle).

    Submitting Questions!

    Currently TC looks at 2 main places for questions: The Chat and General community discussion. In attempt to gather some better questions that TC may be able to better prepare answers for, we are going to look at collecting some questions in this thread.

    Also note that this is not a thread that is officially supported by TC. We cannot guarantee that they'll see and/or use this. But we figure it's worth a shot. If nothing else, maybe someone else in the thread will be able to answer your questions!
