Thoughts on Tours of Duty and the items they bring.

I think I can speak for more than myself when I say that the fact that items simply vanish from Gears of War 5 once a Tour of Duty ends is absolutely terrible. The main thought is that people will think that it's unfair and awful that they cannot get those items. The second likely being that with Gears of War 5's already limited content TC are only shooting themselves in the foot by making it worse.

I think there's another aspect to it though. It is a bad look for new players. When someone comes into Gears of War 5 they will immediately see the Tour of Duty, what you can get from it and when it will end. They will then likely check to see what else is offered in customization as well. That will then bring the crushing reality that the skin they were extremely excited about is never obtainable again. Because it was part of a previous Tour of Duty. They will then look at what can be unlocked through the current Tour of Duty, see all the cool stuff they can tell they won't be able to get and feel even worse.

All in all. The Tour of Duty as it exists just creates problems. Existing players burn themselves out trying to get everything as fast as possible and new players will be utterly disheartened by it and the content lost to it. Because of this, I believe it needs to change. But luckily for TC, I don't think it needs to change much. What I would do is simple. Once a Tour of Duty ends, all items should then be obtainable with scrap for price respective to their rarity. This solves multiple issues in my opinion.

New players will not be disheartened by missed content because they will be able to work towards it.
The loss of content as a Tour of Duty ends.
Existing players who do not care for a mode but want the reward from its challenges will be able to still work to that mode while saving up their scrap. It will just require their patience. But most importantly, that still keeps them playing, as TC wants.
The general lack of content within the game. Naturally, it does not fix the lack of things like maps and such, but it would still be a fine bolster to available weapon and character skins without taking money away from the store, as the items were free already.

These are my thoughts on the exclusivity of the items/skins brought by Tours of Duty. To summarize: They should simply be time locked until the beginning of the next Tour of Duty for everyone's good.

Looks like if you pre order the graphic novel version of the Hivebuster's series you get a new skin for Mac. Haven't seen this one or it being discussed. Doesn't drop until late august 2020 though! Barnes and Noble is my source.
