Lore Discrepancy - How did COG manage to come back so strong after the war with the Locust?

    Posted: 19 Dec 2020 02:03 PM PST

I've not played Gears 5 yet so I might be wrong in some of my lore stuff but the issue I find with the new Gears setting is that how can a civilization that experienced major catastrophe and lost 98% of the planet population and land just undisturbedly continue to progress technologically and actually thrive just a few years after the war? They used to power almost everything with imulsion and now there's no imulsion. It makes no logical sense, Baird creates a company with CoG funding( what magical hole did that come from also?) and manages to create an entire line of robots and industrial machinery AND create multiple hub cities that are actually self-printing more or less, with just a skeleton crew. Plus the Pacific Rim big bois, plus the idea that the New Ephyra is bigger and more advanced than the old one! , which is just completely ridiculous to me. Where are the factories which made that possible, the manpower, the processed resources, research centers, power plants? They're all destroyed or useless due to lack of imulsion! No matter what kind of tech you have, you won't be able to rebuild a more grandeur city just after its destruction and a major world war, in the span of 25 years, with such a big loss to the general population and workforce. Not to mention the loss of important essential workers, academia, intellectual layers of society. The people who understood and operated all the different levels of technology, industry and infrastructure that make it possible for a civilization to move forward. If nothing else, the general level of technology and quality of life should drastically move downhill, not up. Regardless if there are 500 Bairds out there. The lack of structure, knowledge, technology and manpower, could not be so easily overlooked. The main problem is sudden population drop tho, all civilizations run on momentum and if you stop them they fall apart and have to start from scratch. If locust were to wage a war against earth, and we somehow beat them, you think that what little humanity survives would know how to maintain society as it is? Hell no, we have no idea how most of our tech works, just take your phone for example, the average man has no clue how it works. It's all built on the works of countless generations and losing one generation severs that link, which is why I think the COG should have been stopped dead in their tracks after the war.

Loving The First Gears of War!

    Posted: 19 Dec 2020 10:38 PM PST

This is an update on my previous post on this sub stating that I have never played a Gears of War and have wanted to start playing. I've downloaded the ultimate edition and I've grabbed a friend and we are currently doing co-op on Insane difficulty. We've just finished Act 3 and will start the 4th Act tomorrow. It's pretty difficult not going to lie, but we've learned to adapt somewhat.

I am loving this game so much! I honestly can't wait for the rest of the series!

How old are JD and Kait Diaz?

    Posted: 19 Dec 2020 12:41 PM PST

So I recently got Gears 5 because it was 75% off on Steam. I used to play the earlier games, so I'm somewhat familiar with the world and I have fond memories of Marcus Fenix. In any case, I was wondering how old his son JD is, and how old Kait Diaz is, in Gears 5.

    That's the final beta????

    Posted: 19 Dec 2020 07:57 PM PST

The new beta playlist says it's the final major beta before it rolls out in the beginning of 2021. Still 98-99% one shotting people with shotgun, you can still 2 shot down people with shotgun from super far (there's almost NO damage drop off, and where there is it's at a far distance and a VERY drastic dropoff), blast radius on frags is still a million miles wide. I feel like TC is purposely trying to bury this game.

I have so questions about the swarm

    Posted: 19 Dec 2020 09:50 AM PST

-They apparently evolved from locust, so how come they seem less intelligent?

    - Why do they put almost no effort into protecting their hives?

-How are they so numerous if they can only reproduce by capturing humans?

    -What happen to the Kantus?

-If juvies are made from humans, why do they seem more similar to chimps?

    -What did snatchers evolve from?

-What did carriers evolve from? How come leeches can only corrupt certain technology?

    -How to scions reproduce?

-Since they come from underground, I assume the swarm live in the hollow. How come they don't just build all their hives there?

-How to they even live in such a barren place?

-Why and how did the crystalised immulsion act as a cocoon for the locust?

-How is Kait influenced by the hive mind in any way?

-Why don't they have a chain of command?

    Operation 5 vs Release

    Posted: 19 Dec 2020 06:48 PM PST

So after a long time, 5 operations, lots of stores and a DLC I think the game is in a really really good state. We have a proper store with lots of characters (maybe a little too many Bairds and not as many Swarm), new ways to play the campaign, a much more flexible and fun horde and escape. I think that if the game had released in this state it would've been a fan favorite instantly.

What are you guy's thoughts? Like the way the game is now? What do you want to see in the future?
