    Notes:

    • ToD will not update until ~1pm PDT
    • There may be some features that take a bit to roll-out
    • Update is ~11-12 GB
    • Ranked Rewards are coming at a later time (SOURCE)

We've had a lot of posts recently asking questions about size, ToD, purchases, etc.

In order to reduce clutter today, I'm making this thread. If you have any questions, I'll do my best to answer them in here. We'll be locking the repetitive question threads everyone is making.

Is TC on its last legs?

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 03:30 AM PDT

Rod has left the studio almost 2 months ago and they still haven't found a new studio head. In fact, it's weird they didn't have a replacement before Rod even announced his departure. Now Ryan is leaving. It's pretty obvious that things are probably not looking well over there and considering what both them and us have been through over the last 7 months, it's wouldn't be that surprising.

Gears 5 probably cost quite a bit of money to make and it's on life support just after 7 months - it's obviously a disaster the likes of which this franchise hasn't seen, even with Judgment, which was a spin-off made mostly with the assets of Gears 3 by a different studio. Gears 5 isn't Anthem, it's a main line entry in a well established franchise, a franchised that used to be a heavy hitter a few years ago. The failure of Gears 5 is - in a few ways - worse than that of Anthem. The game probably hasn't made much money, since it's on Game Pass and I can't imagine the store brought a lot of revenue either. Gears 5 is right now the 44th most played game on Xbox, behing Black Ops 2 - A CoD that came out 7 years ago (after a bit of research, I found out that on March 18th there were only 2252 people playing BO2 on Xbox, source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gldBlVwd3CU). Gears E-sport was never big, but people's interest in it is probably at an all time low currently. People won't watch a game they don't play and most of those who do is there for skins. Major orgs like Optic and Reciprocity pulled out, despite being 2 most succesful orgs since TC took over. Everything's just looking like there's not much life left in Gears and this studio at this point...

I'm not saying I want this to happen, but I wouldn't be shocked if after releasing Tactics, they would patch the game for like a month to fix the most critical bugs and issues and then we would learn that the studio is getting shut down. I just have a growing feeling that Tactics is TC's last game. Another, less drastic scenario would be Microsoft stepping in, in order to restructure the studio, maybe let them work on something else, rename themselves and put Gears on a shelf for a while, if not indefinitely. Or maybe I'm too pessimistic and TC will get through this, manage to find appropriate replacements for Rod and Ryan and continue the franchise with Gears 6 and other spin-offs. But if that's the case, I'm not sure if I even want to see more Gears games made by this studio...

I hope to see these weapons make a comeback in Gears of War 6. Especially the last weapon <3

Please god let this beautiful weapon make a return.

Gridiron would be much better if the touchdown was worth more points.

    Posted: 31 Mar 2020 10:25 PM PDT

Definitely digging the new mode, but as it stands, scoring a TD and eliminating the opposing team yields the same score. Making the TD worth 3 or 4 points would make it more fun and competitive.

    TC please :(

Gears 5 should have an option to disable campaign download or a standalone multiplayer installer for those who don't play campaign or just already done with it. It takes almost 50% of the full download (IMO)

Ryan Cleven leaving is probably a good thing.

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 04:18 AM PDT

I'm not sure if I'm saying this in poor taste, but if it means that we can get someone that maybe will bring the game back to it's roots, good riddance.

Gridiron is a nice addition, but might benefit from execution or dodgeball rules.

    Posted: 31 Mar 2020 10:56 PM PDT

I like the new game type but feels like it would benefit from having either execution rules or dodge ball rules. Dodge ball would make the game feel like capture the flag you played in school. Tagging ppl back in and making squad wipes more challenging. Execution would make running the flag more beneficial than sitting back and lancering down anyone that goes near it. It would fill in that niche space both game types had that just couldn't gain the attention needed to thrive. Anyone else think so? How you liking gridiron?

    Gridiron Performer Medal

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 06:13 AM PDT

Does anyone have any idea on how to even reach a score of 4000 in this mode in the limit given to us? That plus the fact that it has to be done in 10 matches of Gridiron, not just one. I ran through a private match yesterday to test out how much score I could get against bots. I ended up getting about 30-40 kills, some executions, a few revives, and one touchdown. I only managed to get just above 4000 and that's with having the bots win a few rounds so I could have more time to reach the actual score. The game ended at 14-8. This medal either needs to be reduced or gridiron needs to give more score.

I haven't done the calculations on if executions/kills make much of a difference point wise, and I don't even know if touchdowns give any points at all. If someone can run the math on this or try testing it out themselves, please do. Seems like a bs medal for only 3 stars.
